India closed day one on 368/3 and declared at 564/8 in 127 overs on day two, with a run rate above four an over. Afghanistan ended that day on 113/5.
On day three, Afghanistan were bowled out for 152 and for 112 in 35.5 overs after following on.
The Afghanistan vs India match result carries historical weight. It is India’s largest Test win and Afghanistan’s heaviest Test defeat, beating the innings-and-262-run loss in Bengaluru in 2018. Only West Indies have won by a bigger margin in India, by an innings and 336 runs at Kolkata in 1958.
What the Match Means for Both Teams
For India: With Jasprit Bumrah rested, the Test gave the selectors a look at depth. Suthar’s 7/62 on debut was a clear positive, and Sudharsan’s 81 at No. 3 was a useful return in a key batting position.
For Afghanistan: They played without Rashid Khan, who was rested. The main lessons were the review mistakes and the batting collapses against spin. Saleem’s six-for and Rahmat’s fifty were the positives from limited Test exposure.
